lot of people in washington give to the obama white house it is too insular and he doesn't pull the kinds of expertise he needs into this white house. there's an opportunity in this second term for him to shake things up a little bit. you know, maybe to bring in new players, new faces who have been there from the clinton white house, and kind of help the dynamic and help the governing because a lot of people on capitol hill even democrats will tell you, he's not good at governing and building coalitions. maybe if he brought some folks in who knew how to do that there would be more give and take on the fiscal cliff issue, on the tax reform and entitlement reforms that we get next year, and there is a sense he really could use a bit of some fresh blood to make things a little easier going forward. >> chris, susan, and ari, thank you very much for all joining us. and the jobs report, more jobs are added in november than was predicted. what does it all mean for the economy? we'll have our own reality check next. first, new jersey governor chris christie stops by "the daily show" to chat

believe president obama, the white house, congressional democrats, want to go over the fiscal cliff because they believe that it is more politically advantageous for them to do so. is that a sentiment you agree with or not? >> i believe that the president and the democrats see a political victory at the bottom of the fiscal cliff. i see financial problems for our country at the bottom of the fiscal cliff with unemployment over 9%, and another recession. i think -- i want to find a solution working with people on both sides of the aisle but when you have howard dean, the former chairman of the democratic national committee, you have patty murray, who ran the democratic senatorial committee encouraging going over the cliff i think it's irresponsible. i think we ought to have the president sitting down with john boehner, finding solutions that can, one, pass the house, and, two, be signed by the president, and i believe if you find that solution, it will pass the senate. >> senator john barrasso, thank you for your time. >> thank you. >> next on "andrea mitchell reports" -- as the hous

they were side-by-side, and for real they were in the white house this weekend. president obama taking his message of middle class tax cuts and tax increases for the rich to detroit today. just as michigan is facing a big vote against union organizing in a state long identified with the labor movement. joining me now for our daily fix, msnbc contributor and managing editor of "post politics.com". good day to you. well, first of all, the labor movement really on the ropes now in michigan of all places. michigan where detroit, of course, was the heart of the auto movement, the auto union, and now you've got a vote -- final vote is tomorrow as the president is being greeted by rick snyder, the governor, who says he will sign that, and to union right to work legislation. what does that really mean? >> well, so what you have here, this is something that's passed in 20 plus states. what it essentially says is you do not have to pay union dues in order to be employed. unions view it as a direct attack on their -- the power of organized labor, which comes at least, in part, politically

how are those behind the scenes talks going between president obama and the speaker? >> i want people to know that the president and i met on sunday. it was a nice meeting. it was cordal. we're still waiting for the white house to identify what spending cuts the president is willing to make as part of the balanced approach that he promised the american people. you know, where are the president's spending cuts? >> flash point, syria. has assad backed off his chemical weapons threat? >> we haven't seen anything new for aggressive steps to move forward in that way. >> and hair envy. what will harry reid miss most about retired senator ben nelson? >> he had a lot of real hair. it's often that people call his office -- they believe he has a toupe. it's his hair. he will pull it for every time just to show you that it's real. i mean, he has hair like a 15-year-old, mr. president, and so i have to acknowledge i am a little envious of his hair. ♪ i want it long, straight, curly, fuzzy ♪ >> you wonder why we don't have a budget deal yet. good day. i'm andrea mitchell live in washing
